Black Tusk
JUNE 28, 2021 - VANCOUVER, BC
We had planned three hikes for this trip, and by the time we reached this last one, I was pretty wiped out. It was one of Vancouver’s hottest days, hitting a record 55°C and My legs were jelly for our 5AM start.
The hike started off tough with a ton of inclined switch backs. I constantly found myself catching my breath as 60+ year olds breezed by on their afternoon hike. You could clearly tell I was from out of town (and out of breath). Due to the elevation, the final kms of the hike were snow covered making it difficult to keep my eyes open. It would’ve been great having those sunglasses I packed but mistakenly left them in the cup holder of our rental (classic mistake).
Still, despite the sweat, sun, and snow, it was all worth it. The view at the top was incredible. I could feel my inhales and exhales span across the valley to the mountain on the other side. Smiling and enjoying the moment in the snow, we packed our gear and walked back down.
Shout out to my buddy Rich (Photo 3) for pushing me.
